Climate Justice Task Force
Formed amid the worsening climate crisis, wildfires, floods, heat, power outages, and drought – NBOP's Climate Justice Task Force is focused on creating more resourced and resilient frontline communities that are not only surviving but thriving.
We recognize the complexities and intersectionality of climate justice and that the climate crisis and its effects – especially for our most vulnerable communities – are only perpetuated by oppressive systems of capitalism, white supremacy, and patriarchy.
We recognize that the climate crisis affects communities differently depending on age, race, ability, class, and location - and in most cases our shelterless, disabled, youth, elders, immigrants and communities of color are disproportionately impacted.
Our Current Campaigns
Recently, we have teamed up with the youth of the Latinx Student Congress and the Reclaim Our Power Campaign to fight for energy autonomy and resilience in the heart of Roseland where we are hoping to create a community-led and run Resilience Center that is powered by clean solar energy, providing resources and safe, reliable access to electricity daily and during emergencies. Our aim is to build community autonomy, wealth and resilience and reinvest resources into the future well-being of the community.
We are daring to imagine a different world where we put the earth and people over profit.
A world where we rely on each other, our own communities and neighbors, through mutual aid programs, community-led organizations, and our collective resources, relief, and resilience to get us through the best of times and the toughest of times.
And we believe we can build this world together!
